Flying with American Airlines
Founded in 1928, American Airlines is one of the most trustworthy and recognised airlines in the USA. Operating an extensive network of international and domestic flights around the world, American Airlines is the world's largest airline in terms of fleet size and revenue, and the 2nd largest in terms number of destinations served behind United Airlines. With a fleet size of 945 aircraft and the availability of flights to 344 destinations, American Airlines flies an average of 6,700 domestic and international flights carrying a total of 530,794 passengers each day.
Keeping in mind the comfort of passengers on international flights, American Airlines will offer fully reclinable seats on all Business Class flights departing from Spain en route to the United States of America. This change is part of many in the airline's intent to maximize comfort. Other updates for Business Class fliers include a more modern interior, direct access to cabin hallway, additional entertainment options and more privacy. In addition, Wi-Fi will be available on all flights to Miami (MIA), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) and Chicago (ORD), operated by the Boeing 777-200 and 787 Dreamliner.
American Airlines is a founding member of the Oneworld Airline Alliance, and coordinates fares, services, and scheduling with a number of other major airlines around the world including British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia in the transatlantic market and Cathay Pacific and Japan Airlines in the transpacific market.
Online check-in
- American Airlines offers an online check-in service that is available from 24 hours prior until 45 minutes before departure for all domestic flights, and 24 hours prior until 90 minutes before departure for all international flights.
- When checking in online passengers will need a valid American Airlines booking reference or a valid booking reference issued by a travel agent. Additionally a valid passport will be needed and (when applicable) a travel visa.
- It is also possible to check in online and receive an SMS ticket that can be used at the airport. SMS tickets can only be used at certain airports.
- Once you have checked in you will be unable to make any adjustments to your booking.
Cabin luggage allowance
- All cabin baggage must be no bigger than 115cm (23 x 36 x 56 cm) including handles and wheels and must be able to fit comfortably into the sizer provided at the airport terminal.
- There is no maximum weight restriction on hand luggage for passengers of American Airlines flights.
- In addition to the free cabin baggage allowance, the following articles may be carried inside the aircraft (subject to security regulations): purses, briefcases and laptop bags.
- Each passengers travelling with an infant younger than 2 years old is allowed to bring 1 stroller on board in addition to their cabin luggage. Only small, collapsible and light strollers (up to 9kg) can be carried onto the cabin. Any stroller that weighs over 9kg that is deemed too large or is non-collapsible must be checked.
Checked baggage allowance
- Checked luggage for domestic and international flights operated by American Airlines cannot be greater than 158cm in size.
- The weight limit for all checked luggage on domestic and international flights is 23kg except for flights to and from Brazil in which the limit is 32kg.
- Passengers are able to check up to 10 pieces of baggage including sporting equipment that meets the weight and size specifications for all domestic and international flights, excluding those to and from South America and Central America for which the limit is 5. Each passenger is entitled to 1 free piece of checked luggage, with each additional piece costing a fee.
- All infants above the age of 2 are required to have their own seat and are therefore entitled to the same baggage allowance as adult passengers.
