Flying with Qatar Airways
Founded in 1993 and commencing operations in 1994, Qatar Airways is the state owned flag carrier of the nation of Qatar and currently has a network of over 140 international destinations across Africa, Central Asia, Europe, Far East, South Asia, The Middle East, North America, South America and Oceania. In 2013 Qatar Airways became a member of the exclusive Oneworld Alliance and in doing so, became the 1st Gulf Carrier to sign with one of the 3 major airline alliances. Qatar Airways was voted “Airline of the Year” in 2011, and was granted a 5 star rating in 2012 by the prestigious Skytrax Industry Audit. As such, the airline flies with the slogan “The World’s 5 Star Airline”. Qatar Airways boasts a fleet of 167 aircraft including the Boeing 777 and 787, plus the Airbus A380 and A350 airliners.
Online check-in
- Online check-in is available for Qatar Airways flights to and from 68 destinations. Online check-in for flights to and from the US opens 24 hours prior to departure and closes 90 minutes before take-off. For all other destinations where online check-in is available, passengers can check in 36 hours to 90 minutes before flight departure.
- Online check-in on qatarairways.com is only available for flights operated by Qatar Airways. Online check-in is not available for passengers departing from Baghdad, Basra, Mashhad, Salalah or Shiraz.
- Seat selection is available for all passengers checking in online and can be done during the check-in process.
- Airport check-in is also possible for all passengers flying with Qatar Airways. No extra fee is charged for using airport check-in.
Cabin luggage allowance
- Cabin luggage carried in Qatar Airways must not exceed the dimensions of 50cm x 37cm x 25cm.
- The maximum weight for cabin luggage items is 7kg, which can be increased to 15kg for a fee.
- Passengers are entitled to 1 free item of cabin luggage. In addition to the standard cabin luggage allowance, passengers can also carry personal items such as a ladies handbag, 1 small briefcase, a coat, cape or blanket, an umbrella, 1 pair of crutches or walking stick, a small camera, binoculars, limited reading material, an infant’s carrying basket or Duty-Free items purchased on the day of your flight.
Checked baggage allowance
- Checked baggage allowance for Qatar Airways flights is dependent on the flight destination. For flights to and from Brazil, Argentina, Canada and the US, the maximum baggage dimension is 158cm in total. Flights to and from all other destinations within the Qatar Airways network allow a checked baggage size of 300cm.
- The maximum weight restriction for checked baggage for passengers traveling to or from Brazil, Argentina, Canada and the US is 23kg, which can be raised to 32kg for a fee. For all other destinations, the weight limit of checked baggage is 30kg, which can be raised to 50kg for a fee. No single piece of checked baggage can weigh more than 32kg.
- Passengers traveling to or from Brazil, Argentina, Canada and the US are entitled to 2 pieces of checked baggage. No restrictions exist for travellers flying to and from other destinations provided they meet the defined weight allowance.
- Qatar Airways accepts any sporting equipment as checked baggage as part of the passenger's free checked baggage allowance mentioned on the ticket. Any sporting equipment which exceeds the free allowance will be subject to the specific excess baggage rates for sporting equipment.
